Which applications require cartridge filters?
Cartridge oil filters are typically used in vehicles with a permanent oil filter housing (either mounted directly to the engine or remotely), which contains a replaceable oil filter element (cartridge filter). Many European and Asian-built vehicles from the late 1990s onwards, and certain late-model American vehicles, utilize this type of oil filter to help reduce waste. K&N cartridge filters are made with a pleated high-flow filter media which provides high capacity and allows for reduced oil filter restriction. In many cases, the filter will include new o-rings or gaskets, and is compatible with all grades of motor oil.
How many miles can K&N oil filters be used before replacement?
Some vehicle manufacturers now recommend oil service intervals of 7,500-10,000+ miles. K&N oil filters are designed to perform for the longer service intervals that most vehicle manufacturers now recommend.

Due to the differences in engine compartment designs, and accessories supplied by those manufactures, clearances may
vary from boat to boat. The applications listed are to be used as a reference guide only. Make sure to double check
all the measurements before ordering by using the checklist below. If you wish to increase or decrease the size of
the filter, see Universal 3-Piece assemblies below. (K&N Marine Flame Arrestor 59-1195 shown in picture)
IMPORTANT: DID YOU CHECK THE FOLLOWING?
- Diameter clearance around the existing flame arrestor. Can the flame arrestor diameter be increased?
- Height restriction, due to hatch clearance or any other obstruction. Can the flame arrestor’s height be
increased? - Do any vent lines connected to existing flame arrestor. If there are vent lines attached, measure inside
diameter of vent line and order appropriate vent hose kit below. - For multiple carburetor application, check center to center measurements ensuring enough space for two flame
arrestors. - Check diameter of carburetor.

WHY K&N?
K&N is the home of the original red oiled air filter. In the early 1960s, two motorcycle racers, Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald (K&N), developed a ground-breaking new idea for an oiled air filter.
